Jean Elsen sale 164, lot 1702

This specimen was lot 1702 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €90 (about US$125 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ESPAGNE, Ferdinand VII (1808-1833), Cu 8 maravedis, 1813, Jubia. Décentré. Petit éclat du flan. Superbe. (kingdom of Spain, Ferdinand VII, 1808-33, copper eight maravedis of 1813, Jubia mint. Off center, minor edge split, Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck in Jubia 1811-17 and was accompanied by copper one, two and four maravedis. The Jubia mint was opened in 1811 during the French invasion and struck only copper coins. The type is not rare but scarce in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 10 g, copper, 29 mm diameter.
