The first specimen was lot 601 in Aureo y Calicó sale 261 (Barcelona, July 2014), where it sold for €550 (about US$882 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1812. Fernando VII. Madrid. IJ. 2 escudos. Primer busto. Muy rara. MBC-/MBC. (Ferdinand VII of Spain, 1808-33, two escudos of 1812, Madrid mint, first bust, very rare, about very fine.)"

This bust was used at the Madrid mint in 1812 only and is scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, .875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.
