This specimen was lot 5856 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$399 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SPANIEN Carlos IV. 1788-1808 2 Escudos 1801, Madrid. Mmz. FA. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Spain, Charles IV, 1788-1808, two escudos of 1801, Madrid mint. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type was struck until 1808 at Madrid and Seville. It is the most common Spanish gold coin of the old (reales/escudos) system.
