This specimen was lot 23082 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 2 Escudos, 1801-CN. Seville Mint. NGC MS-63. Nicely struck with attractive luster." This type was struck until 1808 at Madrid and Seville. It is the most common Spanish gold coin of the old (reales/escudos) system. This gold coin continued to be struck until the 1850's as an eighty reales de vellon.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.
