This specimen was lot 31298 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold 2 Escudos 1801 Mo-FM AU Details (Mount Removed) NGC, Mexico City mint. A most-engaging selection with light friction, desirable golden luster, and evidence of mount removal which is not readily obvious to the unaided eye. The scarcer assayer for the date, unlisted in KM. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. The type was struck 1791-1808 and is the most plentiful of all the colonial two escudos. This is the first date of the new assayer FT.
