Aureo y Calicó sale 422, lot 2760

This specimen was lot 2760 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 30 € (about US$39 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1799. Carlos IV. Madrid. MF. 2 reales. BC+/MBC- [fine to very fine]." This type was struck 1788-1808. It was called the "pistareen" in the early United States to distinguish it from its Latin American peers, which were 0.896 fine silver. Assayer MF is recorded for 1788-1800.
