Aureo y Calicó sale 422, lot 2597

This specimen was lot 2597 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 66 € (about US$86 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1617. Felipe III. Segovia. 8 maravedís. Buen ejemplar. MBC+ [nice example, choice very fine]." This specimen is from a Spanish type milled at the Segovia mint 1602-20. It has a low catalog value. The SCWC also lists hammered eight maravedis from the same mint (KM 9.5). Cayón notes that this year comes with the date to the right or left of the shield. Thirty four maravedis made a real.
