Aureo y Calicó sale 448, lot 176

The first specimen was lot 1158 in Aureo y Calicó sale 447 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 85 € (about US$111 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1618. Felipe III. Segovia. 8 maravedis. Small scrape on edge. Nice. EBC [extremely fine]." The second specimen was lot 176 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 130 € (about US$170 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted, "1618. Felipe III. Segovia. 8 maravedis. Nice. Rare in this condition. EBC+ [choice extremely fine]." This type was milled at Segovia 1604 and 1618-19 and is not common. At this time, Segovia was the only Spanish mint using the screw press; the products of the other mints (Burgos, Coruña, Cuenca, Granada, Madrid, Seville, Toledo, Valladolid) were hammered.
