Aureo y Calicó sale 423, lot 1343

This specimen was lot 1343 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 240 € (about US$311 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Enrique IV (1454-1474). Seville. Monogram real. Crowned lion. Rare reverse legend. MBC [very fine]." One reales were struck until 1471 with the king's portrait on the obverse, then with a crowned monogram thereafter. The Seville issue comes with the mintmark at the top or bottom of the reverse. Henry was king of Castile and Leon but not of Aragon or Navarre. His niece, Isabella, and Ferdinand of Aragon would unite Spain.
