Aureo y Calicó sale 423, lot 1341

The first specimen was lot 110 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,848 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Enrique IV (1454-1474). Coruña. Cuartillo. El rey lleva una venera como broche en el vestido. Muy atractiva. Rara y más así. MBC+. (kingdom of Castile and Leon, Henry IV, 1454-74, cuartillo, Coruña mint. The king wears a scallop shell as brooch on his cloak. Very attractive, rare thus, choice very fine.)"

This type, along with a half cuartillo, was issued from many mints, including Burgos, Coruña (C-1684), Cuenca, Jaen, Leon, Medina del Campo, Segovia, Sevilla, Toledo, Valladolid and Villalon. Henry IV dominated Spain but never ruled all of it. That would be left to his daughter and son-in-law, Isabella and Ferdinand. The second specimen was lot 1341 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 500 € (about US$648 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted, "Enrique IV (1454-1474). Cuenca. 1/4 of real. Six-lobed borders on obverse and reverse. Extremely rare. MBC- [about very fine]."

Specification: silver or billon, this specimen 3 g. The second specimen is 0,76 g.
