Aureo y Calicó sale 448, lot 120

This specimen was lot 120 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 500 € (about US$653 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Enrique IV (1454-1474). Madrid. Cuartillo. Obv.: Bust facing, scepter to left. +ENRICVS:QVARTVS:DEI:GRACIA:. Rev.: Castle, M crowned below. +ENRICVS:REX:CATELLE:ET LEG:. Attractive. Very rare, especially in this condition. MBC+ [choice very fine]." Henry IV had a few cuartillos struck in silver at Cuenca, Segovia and Seville (Cayón-1623 thru -1626) but had a large quantity struck in billon at Avila, Burgos, Coria, La Coruña, Cuenca, Ferias, Guadalajara, Jaén, Leon, Madrid (shown here), Medina del Campo, Murcia, Palencia, Segovia, Seville, Toledo, Toro, Valladolid, Villalon and Zamora.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce mint.
