SB125-37437r.jpg

This specimen was lot 37437 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. 3 Shillings, ND (1637-42). Edinburgh Mint. Charles I. PCGS VF-30. Fourth Coinage. From the Richard August Collection." This appears to be the only time this denomination was struck. Three Scottish shillings would have traded for an English threepence. The reverse motto, "SALVS REIP SUPR LEX", means "The safety of the state is the supreme law".

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, 19 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: S-5592; KM-Unlisted.
