Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 46047

This specimen was lot 46047 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. 30 Shillings, ND (1637-42). Charles I. PCGS VF-25 Gold Shield. A wholesome and evenly worn coin with a decent amount of remaining detail. There is dark toning in the protected areas that helps outline the raised devices." This denomination was struck in numerous varieties (KM-87, -88 (shown here), KM-89, KM-90, KM-91) and was accompanied by 60 shillings, 12 shillings, 6 shillings, 1/2 merk, 40 pence and 20 pence. Scottish coinage ended in 1707 with the Act of Union.
