Künker sale 293, lot 1241

This specimen was lot 1241 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €9,500 (about US$12,804 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich August III. (I.), 1763-1806-1827. Konv.-Taler 1765 (geprägt 1769), Dresden. Prämie der Bergakademie Freiberg. RR Nur 150 Exemplare geprägt. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Preussag Collection, Part I. Auktion London Coin Galleries/Künker 1, London 2015, Nr. 394. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus III, 1763-1806, convention thaler of 1765 (struck in 1769), Dresden mint, prize for the mining school at Freiberg. Rare, only 150 pieces struck, handsome patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

A similar mining school thaler (Dav-2679) was issued with the bust of regent Xaver. This one, tho dated 1765, was struck in 1769, after the termination of the regency.
