Russia 1866-SP NF ruble Dav-289
This specimen was lot 75441 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $1,708. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1866-CNB HO. St. Petersburg Mint. Alexander II. PCGS Genuine--Harshly Cleaned, AU Details. A well-struck example with crisp details and white argent color. The noted cleaning has left a quantity of hairlines, but the quality of strike and details still catch the eye." This type was struck 1859-85 in respectable quantities but not so many as the prior type (Dav-283). This is the more common of two assayers reported for the date.
