This specimen was lot 31292 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $8,812.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Alexander II Rouble 1857 CПБ-ФБ PR63 Cameo NGC, St. Petersburg mint. Obv. Crowned double-headed Imperial eagle. Rev, crowned date and value in wreath. Deeply mirrored fields with frosted devices. The strike is full and the surfaces show moderate abrasions with light, lime-green patina. Rare in Proof and the first example we have seen since our sale of the Hesselgesser Proof 65 coin in 2007 at $25,000." This type was struck 1832-58 in large quantities but is today very rare in nice condition. The preceding type (Dav-282) is very similar but with a "wings down" eagle.

Recorded mintage: 250,000 (a better date).

Specification: 20.73 g, 0.868 fine silver.
