This specimen was lot 43909 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 5 Kopek, 1826-CNB HT. PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. Wings down type. Sharply struck with reflective fields and incipient peripheral toning. A lovely little near Gem example sure to please." The second specimen was lot 72729 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[2] noted, "RUSSIA. 5 Kopeks, 1826-CNB HT. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas I. NGC MS-62. 'Wings down' variety. A pleasing specimen, offering steel gray surfaces with some hints of goldenrod throughout, along with a fairly strong strike and underlying luster." Two types of silver five kopeks were struck in 1826; C156, with the eagle's wings down, struck 1810-26; and C126, wings up, struck 1826-31.

Recorded mintage: 1,340,000 (C126 + C156).

Specification: 1.036 g, 0.868 fine silver.
