Stack's Bowers 2014 ANA sale, lot 1497

This specimen was lot 1497 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Kopek, 1851-BM. Warsaw Mint. NGC MS-63 BN. From the Demarete Collection." The type was struck 1826-31 at St. Petersburg and is reasonably common in circulated condition. Silver five kopeks were struck to this standard until 1858 along with copper five kopeks from Ekaterinburg and Suzun.

Recorded mintage: 1,769,000.

Specification: 1.03 g, 0.868 fine silver.
