Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 22201

This specimen was lot 22201 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1772-CNB RY. St. Petersburg Mint. Catherine II (the Great). NGC Unc Details--Cleaned. Softly lustrous and still quite appealing, this handsome Ruble is fully presentable, despite the noted cleaning. From the Sigma Collection." This type was issued from St. Petersburg (shown here) and Moscow 1764-96. This type, issued 1763-82, is fairly common as is this date.

Recorded mintage: 1,050,000 (all three assayers).

Specification: 24 g, 0.750 fine silver, .578 troy oz ASW.
