Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 22200

This specimen was lot 22200 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1771-CNB AW. St. Petersburg Mint. Catherine II (the Great). PCGS AU-58. Tied with just one other example for the finest of the date in the PCGS census, this blast white specimen is wholly without tone and offers an immense, majestic degree of shimmering luster and brilliance. From the Sigma Collection." This type was issued from St. Petersburg (shown here) and Moscow 1764-96. This type, issued 1763-82, is fairly common as is this date.

Recorded mintage: 1,025,000 (both assayers).

Specification: 24 g, 0.750 fine silver, .578 troy oz ASW.
