Russia 1767-KM denga
This specimen was lot 1416 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "SIBERIA: Catherine II, 1762-1796, AE denga, 1767, Suzun (Kolyvan) Mint, novodel issue, a wonderful lustrous specimen example! PCGS graded Specimen 64 RB, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." The regular issue was struck for Siberia 1764-79. Novodels were specimens struck for collectors, mostly in the nineteenth century; many mint sports exist. This coin was worth half a kopek but we're calling it a "denga", as the auctioneers do, because of the word "ДЕНГА" on the obverse. The large ten kopeks are much more familiar to collectors.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 3.3 g, copper.
Catalog reference: KM C2, Bit-H1172, KM N38 (novodel).
