This specimen was lot 3246 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA: Catherine II, 1762-1796, AR 15 kopeks, 1767, once lightly wiped and retoned, XF, ex Dr. Robert A. Rosenfeld Collection." This type, issued 1767-75 from Moscow and 1778-94 from St. Petersburg, introduced the denomination. Catherine the Great began life as an obscure German princess but became czarina after the murder of her husband.
