Russia 1767-SP 10 rubles Fr-129a
This specimen was lot 31276 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $8,225. The catalog description[1] noted, "Catherine II gold 10 Roubles 1767/6 CПБ XF45 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Obv. Crowned and draped bust right. Rev. Four crowned, cruciform shields with the date in the angles. The 6 is very clear under the last 7. The strike is bold, and the surfaces exhibit considerable luster, with light contact marks. This is the single piece that NGC has certified as the overdate, although we feel certain there are others not recognized as such. A very scarce type in conditions of XF and above." This type was struck 1766-76 and superseded the ten rubles of the Czarina Elizabeth which were 16.59 grams.
