Sincona sale 78, lot 309

This specimen was lot 309 in Sincona sale 78 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$216 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Catherine II. 1762-1796, 10 Kopecks 1767, Suzun Mint. 5 roubles according to Petrov. 3 roubles according to Ilyin. Fine to very fine." This type was struck 1766-81 for circulation in Siberia along with copper two and five kopeks. Many survive today but few in choice condition. On this type, two martens support a shield with the date and value.
