Heritage sale 3040, lot 30448
Russia H3040-30448r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30448 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Peter III 10 Kopecks 1762 XF45 Brown NGC, Softly struck, as are many of the overstruck pieces, with minor flan flaws." This seems to be the first issue of this denomination in copper. Large quantities of copper five kopeks were minted starting in 1763 and ten kopeks for Siberia, but they are of a different design, leaving this type rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: Bitkin-15, KM-C44, (variety with date 17.62).
