Sincona sale 84, lot 87

The first specimen was lot 82 in Sincona sale 65 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$329 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"4 Kopecks 1762, no mint mark letters. 1 rouble according to Petrov. Very fine. (4 копейки 1762, без обозначения монетного двора. 21,83 г. Биткин 27. 1 рубль по Петрову. Состояние очень хорошее.)"

The second specimen was lot 87 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$242 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 4 Kopecks 1762, undetermined mint. 1 rouble according to Petrov. Very fine. Traces of overstrike."

This type was struck 1762 only then dropped in favor of the copper five kopeks.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 20.48 g, copper; the first specimen 21.83 g, the second specimen 18.64 g.

Catalog reference: KM C43.2 (reticulated edge), Bitkin 27. the second specimen is Bitkin 28.
