Sincona sale 78, lot 278

This specimen was lot 278 in Sincona sale 78 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,199 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Peter III. 1762, Poltina 1762, Red Mint, MMD DM. 3 roubles according to Petrov. Very fine." The Moscow mint struck poltinas (half rubles) for Peter III and his widow Catherine II in 1762. Both are rare, but this type is the most sought because of Peter's short reign of six months.
