Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75415

This specimen was lot 75415 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Denga (1/2 Kopek), 1766-EM. Ekaterinburg Mint. Catherine II. NGC EF-45 Brown. A decently struck and well-centered Denga with very dark brown patina." This type was struck 1766-96 at Ekaterinburg and is fairly common in circulated condition. The denomination is written "ДЕНГА" (denga). The dengas struck for Siberia used a different design, with martens supporting a shield with the denomination (KM C2).

Recorded mintage: 2,841,000, a slightly better date.

Specification: 5.12 g, copper, 22.2 mm diameter.
