Sincona sale 63, lot 1773

This specimen was lot 1773 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$150 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Catherine II. 1762-1796. Denga 1777, Suzun Mint, KM. 0.5 roubles according to Petrov. Good very fine. Wavy and [t]hin flan." This type was struck 1764-79 for Siberia, and this is a better date. This coin was worth half a kopek but we're calling it a "denga", as the auctioneers do, because of the word "ДЕНГА" on the obverse. The large ten kopeks are much more familiar to collectors.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.30 g, copper, this specimen 1.55 g.

Catalog reference: KM C2, Bitkin 1191.
