Regensburg 1694-MF 1/4 thaler
This specimen was lot 3171 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €650 (about US$853 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS LEOPOLDS I. 1/4 Reichstaler 1694, mit Titel Leopolds I. Münzmeister Michael Federer. Stempelschneider der Vorderseite vermutlich Johann Pichler. Von allergrößter Seltenheit. Laut Münzakten nur 263 Exemplare geprägt. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön. (city of Regensburg, quarter thaler of 1694, struck in the name of Leopold I. Supremely rare, only 263 pieces struck, handsome patina, very fine.)"
None of the quarter thalers of the seventeenth century are common altho they were struck fairly steadily after 1626. This type was struck 1694 only.
