Künker sale 405, lot 3165

This specimen was lot 3165 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,247 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS LEOPOLDS I. 1/2 Reichstaler 1694 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1680 geändert), mit Titel Leopolds I. Münzmeister Michael Federer. Von großer Seltenheit. Laut Münzakten nur 759 Exemplare geprägt. Hübsche Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön +. (city of Regensburg, half thaler of 1694, struck in the name of Leopold I, 1694/80 overdate. Extremely fine, 759 pieces struck, handsome patina, minor edge flaws, choice very fine.)"

None of the half thalers of the seventeenth century are common altho they were struck in most years. This type was struck 1665-67, 1672, 1680, 1691 and 1694.
