Regensburg 1668-HF ducat Fr-2483
This specimen was lot 6125 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €6,500 (about US$8,399 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"REGENSBURG, STADT, Dukat 1668 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1666 geändert), mit Titel Leopolds I. Die gekreuzten Stadtschlüssel in verzierter Barockkartusche, darunter die Münzmeistersignatur HF (Hieronymus Federer, Münzmeister in Regensburg 1653-1673)//Gekrönter Doppeladler, zwischen den Hälsen Reichsapfel, auf der Brust gekröntes, zweifeldiges, ovales wappen (Österreich/Lothringen). In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung MS 61 (5970110-001). GOLD. Von größter Seltenheit. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. (city of Regensburg, ducat of 1668, 1668/6 overdate, struck in the name of Leopold I. Obverse: the crossed city keys in an ornate baroque cartouche, including the mint master's signature HF (Hieronymus Federer, mint master in Regensburg 1653-1673); reverse: crowned double-headed eagle, imperial orb between the necks, crowned, oval coat of arms on the breast impaled of Austria and Lorraine. Extremely rare, outstanding example, about uncirculated, graded NGC MS-61.)"
This type was struck 1659-68, 1672, 1680 and 1696 and is expensive.
