Künker sale 405, lot 3163

This specimen was lot 3163 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,181 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS LEOPOLDS I. 1/2 Reichstaler 1672 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1667 geändert), mit Titel Leopolds I. Münzmeister Hieronymus Federer. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 327, Osnabrück 2019, Nr. 3634. (city of Regensburg, half thaler of 1672, struck in the name of Leopold I, 1672/67 overdate. Extremely rare, handsome patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

None of the half thalers of the seventeenth century are common altho they were struck in most years. This type was struck 1665-67, 1672, 1680, 1691 and 1694.
