Künker sale 405, lot 3149

This specimen was lot 3149 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,511 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS LEOPOLDS I. Dukat 1672 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1668 geändert), mit Titel Leopolds I. Münzmeister Hieronymus Federer. GOLD. Von größter Seltenheit. Sehr schön +. (city of Regensburg, ducat of 1672, 1672/68 overdate, in the name of Leopold I. Extremely rare, choice very fine.)"

The production of gold in Regensburg was very scanty in the seventeenth century. This type was struck 1659-68, 1672 and 1680 and all dates are rare.
