Regensburg 1667-HF 1/4 thaler
This specimen was lot 3169 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,115 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS LEOPOLDS I. 1/4 Reichstaler 1667 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1666 geändert), mit Titel Leopolds I. Münzmeister Hieronymus Federer. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, fast vorzüglich. (city of Regensburg, quarter thaler of 1667, struck in the name of Leopold I, 1667/6 overdate. Extremely rare, handsome patina, about extremely fine.)"
None of the quarter thalers of the seventeenth century are common altho they were struck fairly steadily after 1626. This type was struck 1665-67, 1672 and 1680.
