Regensburg 1667-HF 1/9 thaler
This specimen was lot 3178 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €420 (about US$551 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS LEOPOLDS I. 1/9 Reichstaler 1667 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1666 geändert), mit Titel Leopolds I. Münzmeister Hieronymus Federer. RR Feine Patina, sehr schön +. (city of Regensburg, one-ninth thaler of 1667, struck in the name of Leopold I, 1667/6 overdate. Very rare, fine patina, very fine or better.)"
This denomination, worth ten kreuzer or one sixth gulden, was introduced in 1626 and struck only intermittently until 1667, when production ceased. Most, like this one, are rare. This type was struck 1659-67.
