Künker sale 405, lot 3177

This specimen was lot 3177 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €650 (about US$853 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS LEOPOLDS I. 1/9 Reichstaler 1664 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1663 geändert), mit Titel Leopolds I. Münzmeister Hieronymus Federer. Von großer Seltenheit. Vorzüglich. (city of Regensburg, one-ninth thaler of 1664, struck in the name of Leopold I, 1664/3 overdate. Extremely rare, extremely fine.)"

This denomination, worth ten kreuzer or one sixth gulden, was introduced in 1626 and struck only intermittently until 1667, when production ceased. Most, like this one, are rare. This type was struck 1659-67.
