This specimen was lot 20979 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $4,887.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Prussia. Friedrich Wilhelm IV gold Friedrich d'Or 1841A, MS65 NGC, superb prooflike surfaces with glittering mint brilliance, a dazzling coin in all respects and decidedly rare in this superior quality." This type was struck in Berlin 1825-40 and is listed in the SCWC as a "frederick d'or." The last friedrichs d'or was struck in 1855 (KM 469) and was replaced by the gold half krone (KM 493, struck 1862-69), which contained about 70/83 of the gold in the previous denomination. The gold half krone was in turn superseded by the gold ten mark of the German Empire.

Specification: 6.68 g, 0.903 fine gold.
