This specimen was lot 40135 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 5 Taler, 1845-F. NGC AU-50." This scarce coin matched the standard of the Prussian friedrichs d'or struck from the time of Frederick the Great until 1855. This type was struck in Saxony in small numbers 1842-54.

Recorded mintage: 1,453.

Specification: 6.68 g, 0.900 fine gold.
