Künker Auction 441, lot 4481

This specimen was lot 4481 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,307 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KÖNIGREICH Friedrich August II., 1836-1854. Taler 1844 G. Prachtexemplar mit feiner Tönung. Kl. Kratzer, Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung Jürgen und Erika Schmidt, Bovenden. Exemplar der Slg. Virgil M. Brand, Teil 5, Auktion Leu 70, Zürich 1997, Nr. 7439 und der Auktion Hess-Divo 328, Zürich 2015, Nr. 836. (kingdom of Saxony, Frederick Augustus II, 1836-54, thaler of 1844. Choice example with fine toning, hairlines, uncirculated. Ex-Virgil Brand collection.)"

This type was struck 1839-49 to the Prussian standard along with KM 1162 (mining thaler). Soon after, the "vereinsthaler" standard (18.52 g, 0.900 fine silver) was adopted and used until unification in 1871.

Recorded mintage: 1,026,000.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, 34 mm diameter, lettered edge, this specimen 22,26 g.
