Künker sale 353, lot 4115
the Prussian Rhineland after the Congress of Vienna, with Düsseldorf as its capital

This specimen was lot 4115 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €170 (about US$237 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm IV. 1840-1861. 1/6 Taler 1841, D. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Erworben am 18.12.1974. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William IV, 1840-61, one sixth thaler of 1841. Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The sixth thaler was the only minor denomination to survive the reform of 1821 unmodified in weight or module. This system obtained until German unification in 1871. This type was struck 1841-45.

Recorded mintage: 679,828, a fairly common date.

Specification: 5.35 g, 0.531 fine silver, this specimen 5.33 g.
