Prussia 1786-A 1/6 thaler
This specimen was lot 3488 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €11,000 (about US$15,309 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/6 Reichstaler preuß. 1786, A, Berlin, auf seinen Tod. Von allergrößter Seltenheit. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Slg. Friedrich Otto, Rittergut Passendorf, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 126, Osnabrück 2007, Nr. 2326. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, one sixth thaler of 1786, Berlin mint, on the king's death. Extremely rare, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
Regular production of this type ceased in 1780. This rare date was minted to commemorate the king's death.
