Prussia 1786-A thaler Dav-2590
This specimen was lot 3472 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,600 (about US$2,227 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Reichstaler preuß. 1786, A, Berlin. Greisenantlitz. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, thaler of 1786, Berlin mint, old head. About uncirculated.)"
This type was struck at Berlin (shown here), Breslau and Königsberg 1775-86. These coins saw hard use and are frequently found heavily worn. As they were only 0.750 fine, they were spent and the issues of other principalities hoarded. This is the final date.
