Künker sale 353, lot 3893

This specimen was lot 3893 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,670 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1786-1797. Reichstaler preuß. 1786, A, Berlin. Seltener Jahrgang. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Spezialsammlung Brandenburg-Preußen, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 33, Osnabrück 1996, Nr. 1497. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William II, 1786-97, thaler of 1786, Berlin mint. Rare date, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck at Berlin (shown here), Breslau and Königsberg 1786-90. These coins saw hard use and are frequently found heavily worn. As they were only 0.750 fine, they were spent and the issues of other principalities hoarded. This is the first date.
