Prussia 1781-E thaler Dav-2590
This specimen was lot 3524 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €220 (about US$306 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Reichstaler preuß. 1781, E, Königsberg. Greisenantlitz. Kanonenrohr mit Verschluß und auf der rechten Seite der Waffengruppe 4 Spitzen. Mit Laubrand. Sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. 309, Frankfurt/Main 1984, Nr. 1275. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, thaler of 1781, Königsberg mint, old head, cannon with breech and the weapons group on the right has four points. Edge decorated with leaves. Very fine.)"
This type was struck at Berlin, Breslau and Königsberg (shown here) 1775-86. These coins saw hard use and are frequently found heavily worn. As they were only 0.750 fine, they were spent and the issues of other principalities hoarded.
