Prussia 1781-A 3 gute pfennig
This specimen was lot 3574 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €160 (about US$220 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 3 Gute Pfennig 1781, A, Berlin. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Lagerliste Fritz Rudolf Künker 177, Osnabrück 2005, Nr. 665. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, three good pfenning of 1781, Berlin mint, struck for the mark of Brandenburg. Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck at Berlin 1772-86 in substantial quantities and this is a common date. This denomination was struck in billon until 1806. When production resumed in 1821, it was converted to copper and struck in that form until 1873.
