Künker sale 353, lot 3559

This specimen was lot 3559 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €550 (about US$755 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Kupferner Dickabschlag von den Stempeln des 1/24 Talers 1786, A, Berlin. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. Einziges bekanntes Exemplar in Privatbesitz. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Schulten + Co. Köln, Oktober 1990, Nr. 1927. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, copper strike of the 1/24 thaler of 1786 Berlin mint. Only known example in private hands. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1764-69 and 1781-86 at Berlin, Breslau (shown here), Magdeburg (until 1766) and Königsberg. Most dates are common but this mint sport, struck in copper, is rare.

Recorded mintage: 16,170,563, a common date.

Specification: 2.07 g, 0.222 fine silver, this copper specimen is 5,57 g.
