Prussia 1772-A 1/2 stuber
This specimen was lot 3701 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €75 (about US$104 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/2 Stüber 1772, A, Berlin. Prägung für die westlichen Landesteile. Schrötlingsriß, sehr schön +. Exemplar der Auktion Berliner Münz-Cabinet 10, Berlin 1979, Nr. 3311. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, half stuber of 1772, Berlin mint, struck for the western provinces. Die cracks, very fine or better.)"
This type is listed in the SCWC under East Friesland but it may also have circulated in Prussia's other western territories, such as Cleve, Mark, Ravenburg and Minden. The Aurich mint seems to have closed about 1768 and the Berlin mint took over its duties of providing coinage for the province. This type is listed for 1772 and 1781 and is not rare. A one stuber and two stuber were also struck in 1772.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: billon, this specimen is 0,73 g.
