Künker sale 353, lot 3523

This specimen was lot 3523 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,253 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Reichstaler preuß. 1772, E, Königsberg. Berliner Typ. 22,16 g. Mit Kerbrand. Dav-2586; Olding 110; Kluge 131. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr schön +. Exemplar der Auktion Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. 309, Frankfurt/Main 1984, Nr. 1273. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, thaler of 1772, Königsberg mint, Berlin type, with reeded edge. Scarce in this quality, very fine or better.)"

Altho this thaler was struck at all the Prussian mints, only the Berlin mint product is common, with Breslau second. Königsberg struck this type 1764 and 1772 but both dates are rare. Cleve, Magdeburg and Aurich are also scarce to rare.
