The first specimen was lot 29527 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Prussia. Friedrich Wilhelm I gold 1/4 Ducat 1714-HFH MS64 NGC. With vibrant surfaces that are alight with luster, this small but impressive example boasts the bust of Friedrich Wilhelm I and the star of order. The fields are clear, with the only perceived imperfection being that of a small obverse pin-scratch. An ideal representation of this issue." The second specimen was lot 1154 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 525 CHF (about US$630 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"Brandenburg / Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm I. 1713-1740 1/4 Dukat 1714. HFH-Magdeburg. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William I, 1713-40, quarter ducat of 1714, Magdeburg mint, Very fine-extremely fine, Minor scratches)."

The issue of ducats dwindled after the introduction of the friedrichs d'or in 1740. The last quarter ducat is dated 1716.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.875 g, 0.986 fine gold, .027 troy oz AGW, the second specimen 0.85 g.
